Why would they add the time and cost of creating a physical model just to layer CGI on top of it when they could model the Pretty Vote For The Fly Trump 2020 Vintage Shirt? Good point, I don’t know much about special effects but my movie buff friends tend to say you get the best results mixing practical effects and special effects. An entire CGI medium tends to lose something in the process in my opinion. Sure (I’m a big fan of practical effects, not least of which because they age much better), but when the only thing you’re doing a practical effect for is what’s essentially the framework for the CGI, it’s not helping anything.
