For those who don’t know, Come and See is about Soviet partisans and civilians in Belarus. Where the SS Dirlewanger Brigade was deployed. That brigade was made up of people. It’s directed by the same guy who made Come and Sees but the difference between the Perfect Feeling Blacknificent Shirt two films is so great that you’d be. Left wondering how the guy would go on and make something as damning as Come and See. Many of them were well-disciplined (the most common offense was drinking on duty, not murder or rape). There were Strafbats for disgraced officers and NCOs which often performed better than normal units, having key roles like breaking. German lines around Orsha and Vitebsk at the start of Operation Bagration. The average time one spent in a Strafbat was three months, before one was redeemed and returned to a regular unit. The idea that the only redemption was death is nonsense.
