And each and every time a cop shows up first, they get in the way of those who are actually there trying to help. Some times with lethal consequences. I never understood police going to wellness checks. Wouldnt EMTs be better trained and properly equipped to handle any situation that could arise during a wellness check? At least here in Tennessee, EMTs( ambulance dudes) are only trained to get you to the hospital.

I don’t want police to be the responders to wellness calls, for example. My position in education has required me to make such calls. Gonna spark some debate with this I am sure but I disagree full-heartedly, Do you know who makes these calls when the police are busy? The medics. The firefighters, usually. Now I won’t speak for others, but in my jurisdiction, we get approx 17-20 calls a shift. So an average of 18-21 hours not busy. Removing the police from these calls would simply add to our numbers.
