Right? I started out as a painter on nightshift in a tooling shop. 10-14 hours a night wearing that Good Nurses Back The Blue I’ve Got Your Six Shirt respirator, with 2 10 minute breaks and 1 45 minute lunch. Somehow I could still breathe, even when I was 20 feet in the air hanging near upside down to paint the underside of a fixture. I don’t envy you the heat though. At least my shop was air-conditioned. Respirators and heat really stuck together. Masks are mildly annoying but you quickly get used to them. Tight pants are way more constricting than a mask IMO. I mean every profession had stuff they gotta wear.

A suit jacket is more annoying than a mask. It’s totally a political thing and they’re trying to make shit up to get out of it. Okay, question. A Good Nurses Back The Blue I’ve Got Your Six Shirt lady on Facebook claims surgeons masks are made of a different material than N95s, cloth masks, or those standard blue masks you see on lots of doctors and such. In my experience, surgical masks are similar to the standard blue masks. Lately, we have been having a lot of standard masks from many companies at my hospital and they were all different from one another. Some are more “rigid” than others so they don’t stick to your face as much when you inhale.

I feel like surgical masks are more on that “rigid” side of the mask spectrum but this may be different in other hospitals though. I’m Good Nurses Back The Blue I’ve Got Your Six Shirt a med student and NOT a surgeon but I’m going to throw what little I know at this. All those masks are made of different materials and serve different functions. My understanding is that the primary goal of surgical masks is to keep your pathogens in your face and not in the opened up body in front of you. I’m sure they try to accommodate the comfort of surgeons as much as possible but there isn’t really much need to? But my understanding is that the primary goal is to keep a sterile field. Not comfort or even to protect the doctor (although I’m sure that’s a secondary benefit).
