As someone who is from Funny There’s Some Ho Ho Horses In This House Ugly Christmas Shirt a family of narcissistic people. It’s because when you try to explain, you’re bombarded further. It takes a lot to get out of that mindset and stand up for yourself with the whole truth. Sometimes it’s honestly not worth explaining your side to extended family, the reason his sister went out was damage control. She’s a shit parent and her dumb kid smashing a console is all that is needed to confirm that. It’s hard to change someone’s opinion despite all the evidence against them.
